This batch is Southeast Asian people.

A reminder, since it’s been awhile, of what these images are. These are art samples of the work I did for Learning A-Z last year. The project called for 150 unique characters, isolated on white, with an emphasis on diversity (age, race, body size, ability, and gender identity). To make certain we included examples of all major racialized populations, all but two batches were designed to represent specific races.

Technical note:
This site is hosted on WordPress.com. I use automated social media posting with their JetPack plug-in to reduce the amount of manual posting I have to do. Previously, twitter was one of the companies that was supported for auto posting. I hadn’t used this feature for several months since I deleted my twitter account. However, today I noticed that, as of May 18th, twitter is no longer supported at all, which I thought was interesting. More on that. In addition, they added support for auto posting on Mastodon and Instagram. This is excellent news as that takes care of 2 of the 3 sites I was still manually posting to. This will be a helpful time saver. Anyway, I just set up auto posting for Mastodon and Instagram and I’ll be watching this post to make sure it all works correctly. Hopefully it will. 🙂

A little Southeast Asian girl walking to school, isolated on white. She has one hand up in a wave and is walking to the viewer's right. Her black hair is pulled back in a ponytail. She's wearing a purple backpack and carrying a pink insulated lunch pack decorated with hearts and peace signs. She's wearing a white empire waisted blouse with short puffed sleeves. Her jeans are rolled up to capri-length. Her shoes are pink, slide-on sneakers.

Another character with brightly colored hair. Tie-dye patterns are fun to draw.

An East Asian girl, aged 10-12, smiles into the wind as she rides her kick scooter. Her long black hair is worn loose flying behind her, and she has the ends ombre dyed pink. She is wearing a white-striped black helmet, purple and pink tie-dyed tank top, black biker shorts, and purple sneakers.

This girl is about to show off her skill with a lasso. The rope used for a lasso is stiffer than a regular rope so that the loop at the end will stay open when it’s thrown. I looked up what this should look like before I drew it to make sure I had it right.

An East Asian girl aged 7-9 holds up a lasso. She has a larger body size and her long black hair is in double ponytails. She is wearing a western-style shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots.

This one’s supposed to be in the aged 7-9, but I think she reads a little older than I meant her to. (I think it’s mostly the glasses.)

I remember doing this in middle school. Walking through the hallways reading a book and somehow not bumping into things. I can’t manage that now.

This batch skipped the little girl and added an extra 7-9 year old. They said they were a little light on the birthday party theme characters.

I gave the client three options on dress design. The rainbow one was my favorite. Which do you like best?

Here’s a girl walking to school. Have I mentioned I like drawing backpacks?

The side view gave me a chance to do this fun three-tiered bun hairstyle, a bun mohawk.

A Latina girl, aged 10-12, is walking to school. She has a turquois backpack and is using wired earbuds to listen to something with her phone. She is wearing jeans, a pink t-shirt, and white sneakers. Her dark brown hair is arranged in three tiered buns running down the back of her head.

She’s picking out a pumpkin.

A Latina girl, aged 7-9, stands holding a pumpkin. She is wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, red puffer vest, jeans, and black sneakers. Her dark brown hair is cut in a chin-length bob with bangs.

Here we have a soccer girl. This pose is showing a lot more movement than most of the poses we’ve seen so far.

A Latina girl runs toward the viewer. She is wearing a purple and white soccer uniform with the number 11 on her jersey. She is wearing soccer cleats and her dark hair is in a ponytail. She has a larger body type.

Halfway through and a new batch! This batch will be all Hispanic/Latine characters.

Here you have a little girl holding out a handful of seeds. I think she’s supposed to be feeding an animal who’s out of frame, but she could also just be preparing to spread seeds on the ground. I’m not sure which.

The boots and sun hat were particularly fun. I have several characters in this project where I made the pattern on their clothing with this same scattered flower shape brush. Good results, minimal effort. Work smarter, not harder. 🙂

A little latina girl holds out a small handful of seeds. She's 4-6 years old. She's wearing bib overalls, a pink t-shirt, yellow and white striped bucket hat, and pink rubber boots with a white floral pattern. She has long, dark brown, curly hair.

A deaf child signing, “Friend.” I think space buns are my new favorite hairstyle to draw on little girls.
