Vector Hearts

I was doodling hearts in Adobe Illustrator.

Kiss Me I’m Irish – Version 2

Irish Setter 3

I wasn’t entirely happy with the last one.  I like this one better.  It’s meant to be the cover on a greeting card.  Next up:  The interior spread!  🙂

I certainly hope the CS6 version of Illustrator is much better with fonts than the old version I got a hold of.  As it is, I’m using Photoshop CS5 for the text, and Illustrator CS2 for the vector graphics.  It IS better with vectors than the quasi-vector tool (paths) that Photoshop has, though.  So, that’s something.  I’m also learning how best to use each for different parts of the image.  I may break down and buy the new version of Illustrator, but only if I start doing enough vector work for it to be worthwhile.  In the meantime, I’m just using it as a learning experience.

Kiss Me, I’m Irish!

Irish Setter 3

So, I’m trying to learn Illustrator.  Here’s today’s results.  The fonts are Chaz, Ache-Condensed, and Brandywine-Extended.  I didn’t make the fonts, but all the rest is mine.

I’m not really that happy with Illustrator.  It’s supposed to be the thing to use for vector graphics and text, but I’m only liking the vector tools.  The text tools aren’t really working well for me.  I ended up saving the image to a PDF and opening it up in Photoshop to do the text.  Now, the disappointing text tool performance might just be because it’s an old version of Illustrator.  Or it might be because I’m still learning my way around.  *shrug*  Oh well, it’s good for me to learn it, anyway.  🙂

Merry Christmoose!

Just a quick sketch for the holidays.

Santa

Well, Thanksgiving’s over.  So, it must be time for Santa!

Happy Snowman

This might be my Christmas card design this year.

Or does it look better with more painterly colors?

I made some cards and things with this design.

We’re Dreaming of a White Halloween

We decided to be creative with our pumpkins this year. The girls thought it was SO funny. 🙂

Happy Fourth of July!

And what better way to usher in this day of independence than with a little felony property damage? That’s just what happened to us. A bit after midnight someone was screwing around outside and lit off some explosives in our mailbox. Yes, there was mail in it. And the backend blew all the way up to the porch. Completely shredded the box. And the mail.

So, to make lemonade out of lemons, I figured I’d take some pictures and make them all artsy (by that, I mean black and white) for you all.

Anyhow, Trevor filed a police report and the officer told him it was a felony. But, of course, no one will ever get charged because we don’t know who did it. My money’s on damn punk kids.

Chicks Dig Scars – Updated

I updated this because it kind of bugged me that it was hard to read.  All fixed now.  🙂

Let’s Make Magic: Final – I Think

I think this is the final version.  I’ll put it aside for a week and then come back to it once the “Look at the masterpiece I just created!” buzz has faded.  Then I should be able to judge it more objectively and see if anything needs to be changed.

In the meantime, there’s nothing to keep all of you from commenting.  What do you think?   Is there anything that I need to change about this?  I haven’t double-checked the colors on my other monitor.  Do they look okay or are they too bright?  Does anything look awkward?   The wrong color?  Incorrect shadows?   If you notice anything, pleas let me know.  It’s digital, so I can still change quite a lot if necessary.
