So, I finished the Inktober series, but I wanted to go back and finish off some of them in color. Here’s the first one I colored. Inktober #26 – Hide.

My second kite-themed entry for the SCBWI Postcard Illustration Contest.
A delighted boy is carried aloft by his kite while his mother chases behind in a panic.
Something lurks at the bottom of the basement stairs, and she just found it.
I sketched this today. I was playing with expressions. I wonder what they’re so nervous about.
This was an exercise to practice drawing different expressions on the same character using Adobe Illustrator. I didn’t bother with shading it, since it was just practice.
I initially drew these in a completely different order, but arranging them this way seemed to fit them into a narrative. The second from the last was originally supposed to be a yawn. I’m not really sure why I turned him into a zombie. It just sort of happened.
Okay, so does this work or not? I was thinking perhaps it could use some more vague figures looming behind the four in the thought bubble, but I’m not sure. I’m sending this one out for publication (I hope) and I want it as strong as possible. Do you see anything that needs work? Is the idea clear?
