Hidden Picture – Hiking Trail

I recently completed a project for Utah-based Fish for Garbage, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes communities through waterway cleanups and watershed education. They commissioned me to create a series of illustrations for a children’s activity book.

This image is the first of two a hidden picture puzzles. Can you find all 8 items? There’s a soda bottle, a drink cup, a flip-flop sandal, a chip bag, a soda can, a plastic fork, a deflated balloon, and a set of 6-pack rings. The hidden items were chosen because they’re items often found during the organization’s cleanup events.

This image is a version of the illustration that was used as the cover image. The cover image was in color and without the hidden items. But it still has the same expansive view and variety of wild animals.

The client wanted a child doing yoga, but was concerned that the activity was a little old for the age 10-13 range. So, this child is meant to be just a bit older. Maybe 14 or 15 instead. This is also one of the few images drawn with the child’s eyes closed. This yoga pose is called the tree pose.

This boy’s built a birdhouse he’s getting ready to paint. Originally, I drew this with the boy holding a hammer, as if he’s about to nail it up somewhere. But the client preferred a paintbrush.

Here’s a girl carrying her lunch tray, probably in the school cafeteria. My daughter tells me that her school doesn’t use lockers anymore, so the kids carry their backpacks everywhere. Even to the lunch room.

This is our second action skating pose. Not as intense as the roller derby character earlier, but still fun.

This is another where I used that flower stamp that I have to scatter flowers for the shirt pattern. I also really enjoyed making the balloons semi-transparent for this look.
