One last food item. Bananas did not originate in Latin America, but they have had a huge impact on the history of the region. Here’s an illustration of a bunch of bananas next to a bowl of cereal with banana slices.

Potatoes are a Latin American food. They originated in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Here’s potatoes, fries, and potato chips.

Here’s another example of a Latin American food for this book project. Chips and guacamole with a half avocado.

A chocolate bar next to some cocoa beans and a cocoa pod. I hadn’t realized how big these things were until I looked them up. This illustration appears in the book next to a paragraph about chocolate being an example of a food grown in Latin America.
I recently completed a project for Utah-based Fish for Garbage, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes communities through waterway cleanups and watershed education. They commissioned me to create a series of illustrations for a children’s activity book.
This image was a small spot illustration depicting a metal lunchbox and reusable water bottle. The illustration is used to show an example of reusable containers for lunch that contribute to unnecessary trash in the environment. The water bottle has stickers for the Fish for Garbabe organization and a related fishing organization.

Here’s the second illustration for the book project I just finished for Learning A-Z. Page 4 of The Neighborhood’s Night by Juliana Catherine. This scene is in a cloud to show that it’s a flashback to the previous day when they family had all packed their emergency supplies in preparation to evacuate if the fires got too near. You can see a collection of emergency supplies laid out on the floor ready to be packed into duffle bags, one per person. Mama is putting a tag on little Amir’s ankle so that he can be reunited with the family if he gets separated.

I just finished this new portfolio piece. It’s for my series of middle school kids starring that girl on the left there. (I should probably give her an actual name.) She’s grossing out a friend of hers by showing him her lunch.

Today I drew green beans for Hart McLeod.
